Philadelphia Zoo Celebrates Delivery of Endangered Baby Monkey to 1st-Time Mother and father

On Friday, the zoo announced on social media that a little one François langur, which is a variety of monkey, was born very last thirty day period — marking the initially beginning of the endangered species at the zoo.

The female langur was born on December 13 to initial-time mothers and fathers Mei Mei and Chester. She was named Quý Báu, pronounced “Qwee-bow,” which usually means “valuable” in Vietnamese, the zoo wrote on Twitter and Facebook together with a video clip of the newborn monkey getting bathed and fed.

When Quý Báu was born, zoo personnel seen that Mei Mei wasn’t attending to her, which the zoo explained isn’t really unusual for initially-time moms. To make sure Quý Báu acquired the care she required, the zoo’s vet personnel took the child langur to their animal clinic for a bathtub and meals.

“Because then, she and mom have bonded and the total household is executing terrific!” the zoo mentioned.

When she was very first born, our crew noticed Mei Mei wasn’t attending to her, which is not unusual for first time mothers. So our vet workers took the infant to the animal healthcare facility for a warming tub and some food stuff.

Since then, she and mother have bonded and the total family members is carrying out fantastic!

According to the New England Primate Conservancy, François langurs are ordinarily discovered in the dense, humid forests and eco-friendly valleys of southern Guangxi province in China and northern Vietnam. 

The species’ inhabitants — which is down to only 2,000-2,100 —  is listed as “reducing” owing to habitat reduction, mining and quarrying, logging, and searching, the New England Primate Conservancy shared.

To stabilize the inhabitants of François langurs, zoos during the Affiliation of Zoos and Aquariums launched a shared conservation effort and hard work to build the Langur Species Survival System, which maintains breeding information for langurs in zoos across the nation.
