California teenagers turn experiences of racism into action: “Education is the key to fighting racism”

Eighth graders at Black Pine Circle University in Berkeley, California, are generating their own lessons on lifetime following suffering from racism. 

“I was just strolling down the avenue with my mother, and this, like, random woman on the road coughed in her confront,” 14-yr-aged Mina Fedor told CBS Information. 

As attacks on Asian Americans spiked throughout the pandemic, Fedor took action and arranged a youth rally last spring. She expected 50 people today to present up, but 1,200 people attended. 

The rally influenced her to start Asian American and Pacific Islander Youth Increasing, a team of center faculty activists in search of to end racism towards Asian Americans. The group created a strategy encouraging educational facilities to teach Asian American record. 

“Education is the vital to fighting racism and stereotypes and biases,” Fedor explained. “It can be really essential to shifting people’s minds or undoing stereotypes.”
