Lehigh Acres girl arrested for aggravated animal cruelty

A 31-yr-previous female was arrested on Thursday for employing a prong collar on a canine at her home.
The incident took place on Dec. 7 at Carmen Melendez’s property in the 500 block of Wyoming Highway in Lehigh Acres, in accordance to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office Facebook article.
Melendez experienced two canines tethered in the yard without the need of shelter. One of the puppies was sporting a prong collar that experienced become embedded into the dog’s neck, suffering several puncture wounds.
A veterinarian who examined the pet decided the injuries were steady with neglect and could have been prevented, the sheriff’s business office said.
Investigators discovered the doggy collar was procured to preserve the canine from escaping.
An arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 15. She is billed with aggravated animal cruelty. She was found on Thursday and booked into Lee County Jail.
“I am sickened by the reality that this pet dog was left outside the house in a prong collar,” stated Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “I are unable to be additional crystal clear: Everyone who harms an animal in Lee County, whether or not intentional or by neglect, will go to jail.”
Melendez was also arrested in 2019 and is accused of pistol-whipping a female throughout an argument with a neighbor about a loose pet. She is charged with aggravated assault in that situation.
